East-West Center (EWC) nominated Banglar Pathshala Foundation for ‘EWC Innovation for Sustainable Development Fellowship 2021’
It is a great pleasure for us to inform you all that Banglar Pathshala Foundation has successfully been nominated on May 14, 2021 by the East-West Center (EWC), a United States based organization which promotes United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The foundation received this prestigious nomination after much of scrutiny and evaluation by an International Jury Board of EWC selected 16 organizations across 9 countries in Asia and the Americas. It is a 5 months long program aimed to facilitate five SDG goals.
East-West Center is based in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. The Centre is funded by the US Government. It promotes better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, research, and dialogue. It has a network of 65,000 alumni and more than 1,100 partner organizations throughout the world.
The EWC Innovation for Sustainable Development Fellows (#EWCinnovationfellows) is a ten (10) year opportunity to support EWC Alumni and their collaborators striving to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The Program is administered by Experiential Professional Development (XPD) and the Office of Alumni Engagement (OAE) of the EWC. Banglar Pathshala will also receive support and mentorship from EWC Almuni Bangladesh Chapter.

Bio of Ahmed, The Founder of Banglar Pathshala
Ahmed Javed Chowdhury is the Chairperson of Banglar Pathshala Foundation. Ahmed is passionate about teaching and creating social awareness. He is serving as Assistant Professor of economics in four private universities in Bangladesh teaching courses on microeconomics, macroeconomics, development economics, consumer behaviors, Bangladesh economy, theories of justice, and economics of vaccines.
Ahmed is currently pursuing his MPhil research on “The Political Economy of Slums of Dhaka city” at the National University. Ahmed has completed his Master of Economics from the University of Dhaka in 2014 obtaining first class.
Ahmed participated in 5 international conferences and presented papers in the country and in abroad, edited 3 books and wrote 8 book chapters of different edited volumes. One of his writings included in the book collection of Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen’s book Bola Jay published (2020) from Ananda Publishers, India. Besides, Ahmed’s articles are regularly published in national dailies and he is famous for his translation works which exceed 30 publications.
Bio of Maruf, The EWC Innovation for Sustainable Development Fellow
The Fellowship is awarded to Maruf Hossain, who was Fellow of Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program administered by East-West Center during 2014-16. He earned his MBA from the Shidler College of Business at University of Hawaii. Maruf also served as Secretary of EWC Participants Association during 2015-16 and received ‘Distinguished Service Award’ for exceptional contribution in the center’s community building activates.
At present Maruf is working at Wealthsimple, a Canadian investment management service company as Core Operations Analyst. Prior to moving to Canada in 2019, he had served as Business Analyst and Credit Analyst for small business banking in two prominent banks based in Dhaka, Bangladesh for the past seven years.
Maruf has been serving as Project coordinator (volunteer) for Banglar Pathshala Foundation since 2009.
